Not so long ago, it was tough to brush off the buzz online about Twitter marketing tools. It was believed that Twitter was one of the best ways to grow a list and to get people to purchase the products you are advertising. Nevertheless, how much of a bang for your buck do you get from any of these programs that were pushed at us to improve our sales figures? We will talk about Twitter marketing and whether or not it is worth your time and expense as part of your online marketing strategy.
Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help online marketers build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to try it out. Not only did I shell out money to register in programs that would bring me followers but I invested in a few softwares to help advertise the products I was selling. All in all, I ended up investing in about eight different programs that would help me with all of this.
One of these tools was an automatic ‘people follower’ on Twitter with the objective that some of those people would follow me back. If a person was not following me, I had another program that would automatically delete them from my to-follow list. This would enable me to follow many people once more to get them to follow me. Together with some other programs that are not really worth bringing up, I invested in a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog. Initially, I was truly happy with the end results after using the programs in combination since they truly delivered on what they promised. Nonetheless, my excitement was quickly squashed when I realized that I wasn’t pulling in any money. I would post to my blog 10 times every day and those posts would be shown directly on Twitter just like they are supposed to. Wanting to increase the number of daily posts, I found a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully gain more Twitter followers.
The results of my Twitter marketing efforts are as follows: In three years, I was able to gain a Twitter following of almost ten thousand people. You’d probably be really delighted to have that number of followers, but there’s more to come. Also in the past three years I have had at least fifteen thousand of my blog posts that were advertising affiliate products tweeted to my Twitter account. My blog posts appearing on Twitter was the only sort of advertising for that blog I did and to determine the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Just how ‘good’ it was rapidly became plain: after 3 years just two affiliate sales pulled in $46.74 plus a whopping $9.10 for Adsense. With only 2 – 4 visits each day coming from Twitter, maybe this is not surprising.
Despite me making use of tools to make the job more effortless and achieving approximately 10,000 followers on Twitter, I still could not turn a realistic profit using Twitter marketing for my blog. At the end of the day I’m now out of pocket for the Twitter tools I paid for because my dollar return was so low. Finally, I cannot personally recommend using automatic software tools as an effective means of advertising on Twitter.
